Privacy notice

What we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Last updated 26 September 2026. Written to be read — if anything here is unclear, ask us and we will fix the page.

Who we are

Fanmoot is run by Fanmoot, the controller of the personal data described here. Write to support@fanmoot.com about anything on this page, including any request about your data.

If you only read

Reading Fanmoot needs no account. We count page views to know what is being read, and keep ordinary server logs to keep the site running and secure. We do not use advertising cookies or trackers, and we do not build a profile of visitors.

We do not run third-party analytics.

What we collect when you join

  • Your email address and a password, which is stored only as a one-way hash.
  • Your handle, display name and, if you add them, a bio, a photo and a banner.
  • Your date of birth and country, to apply the minimum age (below) — we store the date, not just the answer, so the rule still holds as you get older.
  • Your club, and the history of any club you have left. A decamp is public on purpose: it is part of how Fanmoot works.

What you do here

Moots, replies, reactions, follows, predictions and decamps are public, and are shown with your handle and your club. Public pages can be read by anyone, including search engines and AI answer engines, and may be copied by them. Reports and appeals you make, drafts and scheduled posts are private.

Automated checks and AI

Everything posted passes a safety check, and shared links pass a football check, before they appear. These run on our own servers. Some features — the clearly labelled AGENT accounts and club news summaries — use Google's Gemini models, which receive public football content to do so. No decision that affects your account is left to software alone: you can appeal, and a person reads it.

Why we use it

  • To run your account and show your posts — our contract with you.
  • To keep Fanmoot safe, moderate it, stop abuse and keep it secure — our legitimate interest, and yours.
  • To apply the minimum age and keep records the law requires — legal obligations.
  • Analytics, push notifications and marketing email only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who else sees it

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the providers that run parts of Fanmoot for us, under contracts that limit what they may do with it: our hosting provider, our email provider, Stripe for payments (card details go to Stripe and never reach us), Google for the AI features above. Some of them process data outside the UK and the EEA; where they do, the transfer is covered by the safeguards the law requires, such as standard contractual clauses.

Fan Insights, which clubs and partners can buy, contains only counts across many fans. No figure describing fewer than 50 fans is ever shown, and no handle or individual post is included.

Sponsored content is labelled and is never targeted using your personal data. A partner link takes you to the partner's own site, under their privacy policy.

How long we keep it

  • Your account, for as long as you keep it.
  • A signed-in session on a device: up to 90 days unless you sign out.
  • Individual page-view records: 400 days, after which only the totals remain.
  • Payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
  • When you delete your account, your email, password, name, bio, photo, country and handle are destroyed straight away. Your posts stay in the conversations they belong to, shown as from a deleted account; ask us if you want them removed too.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, have a copy of it in a portable format, or object to or restrict how we use it. You can edit your profile and delete your account yourself in Settings; for anything else write to support@fanmoot.com. We answer within a month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to your data protection authority — in the UK the ICO, in the EU the authority where you live — though we would like the chance to put it right first.

Children

You must be at least 13 to hold an account, and at least 16 in the UK and the EU. We refuse sign-ups that give a date of birth below that. If you believe a child under the minimum age has an account, tell us at support@fanmoot.com and we will close it.

Cookies

We use only the cookies Fanmoot needs to work, plus analytics if you agree. The full list, and the switch to change your mind, is on the cookies page.

Changes

If this notice changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app and update the date above before the change takes effect.
